Bringing the accent.

Updated: Jul 19, 2019

There are limitless possibilities when it comes to accent walls. It only takes some inspiration and imagination. Accent walls are a great way to break up a large room or to emphasize an architectural detail such as a built in, wainscoting, a fireplace, or a nook. It can also help to transform an ordinary space into an extraordinary one.

When you walk into a room, the wall that is directly in your natural eyesight ahead of you is considered your focal wall. This wall is typically the one used for an accent wall. Once you have determined which wall is going to be your accent wall, you will then have to figure out the function of the space and it's layout. Ask yourself some questions like where is the television going? What kind of furniture will there be and where is it going to be placed? After determining the function of the space, you should find an inspiration. This can come from anywhere. Look through magazines or online to find things you like, then try to find a cohesiveness between the items you have chosen. Once you have a grasp on what direction the room is going, you can start putting together your accent wall.

When making a television wall into an accent wall, try to remember functionality. The main purpose of the space is to watch television. Don’t add too much to your accent wall that it distracts from the television and thus takes away from the function of that room.

Another great way to add some color and texture to a room is with a wallpaper accent wall. This brings an elegant, sophisticated touch to the room you are working with that is accentuated with the chosen wallpaper accent.

Using paint is another way to bring a pop of color to your space that transforms it from being dull to being more full of life.

With green being the 2017 color of the year, one of the most popular trends right now is faux greenery. It adds a sense of liveliness to a space. The picture below is of a faux greenery wall with a  rustic wood frame that is juxtaposed by a baroque gold frame mirror. This gives you a homey but also an elegant feel to the space.

Just keep in mind there are endless ideas for you to experiment with. Get creative and turn your space into an amazing showstopper.
